This RFID protocol secures radio frequency identification tags using minimal processing resources. RFID tag user can ensure the data stored on RFID tags cannot be deciphered by others, thereby protecting personal or product information from being read by others. Although there are other ways to protect data, they are not widely used as they are expensive to implement due to the high processing and power requirements. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags can be read with readers in the vicinity of a tag, resulting in a quick and inexpensive way to transmit key information on products, people, and anything on the move. Since RFID technology is increasingly used for a variety of applications such as access control, payment and eID (e-passport), inventory, etc, an individual’s or organization’s data is increasingly vulnerable through skimming and eavesdropping. Securing data without compromising the inherent advantages of RFID is a significant challenge. Most solutions to this problem require a high degree of computational resources, which are scarce on most RFID tags.
