Aortic Valve (AV) Surgery Decision Support System

Description:

The AVQ and AVSim decision support software packages improve patient outcomes by providing enabling analysis on a patient’s condition and likely response to surgery well before the surgery takes place. Using ultrasound data collected as part of routing pre-operative assessments, the patient and the surgeon can go into the operating room better prepared, with a greater likelihood that the most patient-centered intervention will be done.

Description:

AVQ provides a comprehensive view of the AV from information collected during examinations, while AVSim analyses number of potential interventions to demonstrate the likely outcomes for the patient. This may reduce the number of heart valve replacements in favour of less invasive interventions. This technology has the current benefits:

  • Uses existing information collected from ultrasound technology, with potential for 3D+t datasets from imaging modalities such as CT and MRI

  • Simple hardware requirements (PC with 4 GB RAM, 1920 x 1080 screen, 1 GB disk)

  • Surgeons and patients can make better decisions in advance of surgery as data is acquired as part of routine pre-operative examination

  • Provides a comprehensive picture for better decisions with full finite element analysis of the AV during a cardiac cycle, giving access to overall function, including opening and closing characteristics and sealing quality, as well as mechanical stress level, as a predictor of risk of immediate tissue tearing and/or long-term calcification

  • Easy to run
